Attempt made to blow granite monumnent

Someone apparently tried to dynamite a 40-year old granite monument in Elbert County, Georgia—known as the Georgia Guidestones.  A report from Elbert County indicates that the blast was such that people two miles away felt their homes shaking. According to one history account, the monument was the work of a mysterious individual and what’s happened now is not the first time that the Georgia Guidestones have been vandalized.  An active “police situation” there has led the Georgia DOT to temporarily close SR 177 between milepost marker 17.5 and 18.  The road has been partially re-opened to ease traffic but, as the situation unfolds, may close again.
