At Clemson, actress Rashad to give a poem reading

Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad will make a public appearance next month at Clemson University’s Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.  Although best known as Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show”, Rashad will give a reading from her mother’s poem “Hawk.”  The poem is described as an allegory of freedom made analogous to space flight. The reading takes place at 7 Tuesday night, October 10.  Tickets for the event are $30 dollars and include an advance copy of “Hawk”, which is being published by Clemson University Press.  The poem by Rashad’s mother, Vivian Ayers, was originally self-published by Ayers in 1957.  Rashad’s mother, is a Chester, South Carolina native, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
