An eye out on this weekend’s weather

Mostly cloudy skies across WGOG land this Friday, and a forecast high in the low 60s.  After the noon hour today, a 20 percent chance for showers.  Mostly cloudy tonight and a low around 43.  In spite of the 70-degree readings in parts of South Carolina yesterday, prognosticator Frank Strait doesn’t rule out the possibility of snow in part of the state in a couple of days.  The cold front moving through brings a brief period of more typical winter chill.  The slight chance for snow notwithstanding, severe weatherman Strait says it’s just not cold enough for a big snow.  That said, there’s some potential for the rain to turn to snow in the Upstate late tomorrow night and Sunday slushy accumulations possible, especially in the high ground northwest of I-85.  In some parts of the state, tornado risk this weekend is not ruled out.  The weatherman’s advice:  when there is tornado risk, have an action plan in place and have two ways to receive warnings.  More detailed information is available on the ready.gov and weather.gov websites.  In just a little more than one month begins prime time for tornadoes in South Carolina.
