Allen Green marker approved

A motion approved last night by the Oconee Arts and Historical Commission allows for a marker for Allen Green, a county prisoner shot dead in 1930 after a mob overpowered the sheriff and removed him from the jail.  The location for the marker will be the vicinity of the Oconee Courthouse, and the Arts and Historical commissioners were told last night that the language that will appear on the marker will be composed by the state Department of Archives and History.  At last night’s meeting, Josh Johnson of the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum gave a presentation.  Many of his remarks are being aired today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
