Agreement reached for highway safety work

A local highway official says meetings of parties involved has produced an agreement to allow for a project to improve safety – and the flow of traffic – at a T-intersection leading from the Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital to U-S 123/the Sandifer Boulevard.  Dick Cottingham, member of Oconee’s state “C” Fund Committee, says the DOT has agreed to remove concrete islands on 123 between Hospital Drive and an entryway to the Applewood Shopping Center.  Part of the project calls for a re-striping of Hospital Drive as it passes the EMS headquarters and the Foothills YMCA complex.  “Fortunately, the DOT is going to be willing to pay for the work in the middle of the road and the hospital and the Y are going to share the cost for the re-striping and work necessary on Hospital Drive, which is the property of the hospital,” Cottingham told 101.7/WGOG NEWS today.
