Aero draft plan tantamount to a “wish list”

A replacement airport terminal is part of a five-year “wish list” of proposed capital improvement projects reviewed yesterday by the Oconee Aeronautics Commission, in a regular meeting held in county council chambers.  Joseph Barkevich of the Oconee Regional Airport’s long-time outside consultant company W-K Dickson suggested a new terminal to be built adjacent to the existing facility.  Other potential future projects include better airport lighting and additional hangars to store airplanes. The airport is currently home to 80 fixed aircraft.  Should that number ever exceed 100, Barkevich explained, the airport’s chances to qualify for additional state and federal funding increase.  Airport officials are eager to qualify for additional grants thru the FAA because the required local supplement is as low as five percent.
