Advisory board’s role in historic and design regs
A board which serves an advisory role to the Walhalla City Council will have a say in whether the city adopts an historic preservation ordinance. The proposed ordinance will be placed on Monday’s agenda of the city planning commission. The meeting is 5:30 pm at city hall. Under purpose, the ordinance gives six reasons why it’s time for Oconee’s seat of county government to enact regulations for historic property designation and design review. Those reasons: to protect, preserve and enhance the distinctive architectural and cultural heritage of City of Walhalla; to promote the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the people of the City of Walhalla; to foster civic pride; to encourage harmonious, orderly and efficient growth and development of City of Walhalla; to strengthen the local economy; and to improve property values.” Planning commission members are Chris Grant, the chairman; Kelvin Bryant, Gina Orr, William Tatum, and Jessie Bunning.
