Acreage to be added to heritage preserve

South Carolina DNR seeks the help of Oconee County to expand its Stumphouse Mountain Heritage Preserve.  Seeking to acquire around 17 acres adjoining the preserve, DNR will ask County Council’s support tomorrow for the property purchase.  It’s on the council’s 6 o’clock meeting agenda tomorrow night. The acreage takes in upland hardwood forest that offers habitat for game and non-game species.  If the transaction goes through, the property becomes tax-exempt.  For the previous year, the property tax approximated 17 thousand dollars.
