A U-S Forest Service controlled burn today

Smoke from a U-S Forest Service controlled burn is liable to be seen from Oconee’s three largest municipalities:  Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster, as it drifts in the direction of Highlands, North Carolina.  The zone fire management officer of the USFS, Wes Bentley, says the objectives for today’s one-day burn off Rich Mountain Road on Poor Mountain and Buzzards Roost Mountain are wildlife habitat, fuels reduction, and the threatened and endangered species Smooth Purple Cone flower.
