A swimming success for Oconee schools

Oconee School District’s one and only high school swim team has seen participation increase, since forming five years ago.  The district sports a competitive swimming squad–thanks to a partnership with the Foothills YMCA.  The “Y” has an indoor, multi-lane pool that is the home body of water to the team which competes under the banner of Seneca High.  Interest in competitive swimming Oconee high schoolers started slow, with only two swimmers in 2017.  But it grew from 28 in 2020 to 40 last year.  According to Dr. Thorsland, district superintendent, the numbers are increasing to the level that a second team will be required.  Last year’s team was coached by Steve Berkhart and Tyler Will.
