A sewer question looming more than ever

“Closer on the horizon” is how Oconee’s sewer official sees the time for a decision on whether to build a new treatment plant or expand the existing 40-year-plus facility at Seneca.  Chris Eleazer, the JRSA executive director, responded to a question by board member David Dial.  “I think we are approaching that now,” Eleazer said when Dial asked when does he see making a hard decision.  Because Oconee is a growing area, including the additional of student apartment complexes and plans to build a large shopping center just west of the Seneca city limits, Eleazer is keeping in mind the capacity numbers of wastewater gallons at the existing plant.  He gave the current number of 4.9 million gallons a day, but the state might stop construction permits if it approaches 6.2 million gallons.
