A request of Walhalla’s water customers

That recent major highway 11 water main break cost city of Walhalla between 300 and 400 thousand gallons of water, and stressed the city’s near three-year old treatment plant at Lake Keowee.  Scott Parris, utilities director, made the announcement last night at city hall.  The loss of water created what Parris described as a “humongous river” on SC 11 — to which he and his crews responded and worked to stop, repair, and sample test water during a boil advisory.  Some customers have vented their displeasure at not timely knowing the city had gone to a boil advisory.  Last night Parris explained that the city’s telephone notification system to its customers is only as good as the accuracy of the phone numbers provided by the customers.  He is requesting that all Walhalla customers ensure that the contact numbers they’ve left with the water department are in fact correct.
