A joyous day for mainstream Walhalla church

Two prominent Walhallans, Jess Neville and Lamar Bailes, combined to alight a paper to symbolize the financial debt payoff by the E. Main Street Presbyterian church for the re-build of their place of worship.  Just inside of 10 years ago, on a September Saturday morning, fire destroyed much of the Walhalla Presbyterian Church, including irreplaceable items of church history. Fortunately, as church member Thomas Alexander explained yesterday to reporters, the stained glass windows were spared from the fire.  An outside ceremony early last night served as the burning of a $900 thousand mortgage to which Bailes and others attached their good faith signatures.  It was noted by more than one of the local Presbyterians that contributions from the congregation, along with the guiding hand of the Lord, made possible the church rebuild.
