A 101.7/WGOG NEWS clarification

WGOG NEWS accounts this week referred to the Order of the Silver Crescent as South Carolina’s highest civilian award.  A 101.7/WGOG NEWS follower, with a sharp eye, said he was sure there is one higher state award, and he is correct.  As confirmed by the resident state senator, Thomas Alexander, the Order of the Palmetto is the highest civilian honor for contributions on a national or statewide scale.  The Order of the Silver Crescent was bestowed this week upon a distinguished Seneca resident, the retired educator Helen Rosemond Saunders.  Among the plaudits accorded Rosemond-Saunders, Alexander said, “Her passion for education has been at the forefront of everything she has done in her professional career as an educator, in her community and while serving three decades on the TCTC (Tri-County Technical College) Commission.”
