Gunfire victim — a 7-year old

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a shooting incident in which a seven year old girl was shot.

 

Dispatchers received a call around 3:25pm yesterday afternoon of a reported shooting at 260 Taylor Road, which is a West Union address near the Picket Post Community.  When deputies, investigators and first responders arrived on scene, they discovered that a juvenile female had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

 

First aid was administered to the victim and the firearm, which is a handgun, was secured at the scene.  The victim was transported to a landing zone at the intersection of Highway 183 and Highway 11, where she was transported by medical helicopter to the hospital for further treatment.

 

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and continued the process of gathering evidence in the case.

 

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office believes that the shooting was accidental in nature, which is based upon the evidence and facts that have been gathered so far.

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and there is no danger to the public.
