Man placed in custody near Westminster

 The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man on an outstanding warrant from an incident that occurred in Oconee County in late December of 2021.

 

43 year old Roger Michael Gilliam of Little Choestoea Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 3:07am Wednesday.  The outstanding warrant on Gilliam was for a charge of Assault and Battery – High and Aggravated.

 

Late Tuesday evening of this week, deputies were notified of a reported kidnapping of a child from Stephens County, GA in which Gilliam was identified as a suspect.  Deputies also received word of a vehicle that Gilliam was driving and that he was headed to the Westminster area.

 

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on Pump House Road near Westminster.  Upon further investigation, Gilliam and the child was located inside of the residence.

 

The child was turned over to the custody of his mother and a deputy from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to continue the investigation into the reported kidnapping.  Gilliam was placed under arrest on the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office warrant and transported to the Detention Center.

 

The outstanding arrest warrant against Gilliam was in regards to a disturbance call at a separate address on Little Choestoea Road during the late evening hours of December 28th of last year.  According to the arrest warrant, Gilliam is accused of using a knife to cut the victim of the assault on his rib cage, which required medical attention.

 

Gilliam was given a $10,000 surety bond during his bond hearing.  Gilliam was released from the Detention Center after posting bond.
