6 pm tomorrow — official start of Ok’fest

Walhalla shows itself off in regal style this weekend, with another weekend that denotes its German roots from the middle part of the 19th century.  Oktoberfest weekend at Sertoma Field officially starts at 6 tomorrow evening with a ribbon-cutting – and then it is to be fun, carnival rides, food, beer, crafts, and Saturday night fireworks for three days.  Entertainment will include a polka band and Bavarian dancers.  Some attendees embrace the spirit by wearing lederhosen, even if the temperatures make wearing shorts uncomfortable.  Three movers of Oktoberfest were in our studios this morning, during the Golden Corner’s Morning Show with John Durham.   Jesse and Nick Bunning, along with Stacy Jackson, told us that they are expecting as many as 100 vendors to be ready for the typical crowds of thousands.  In the Crowds have been so great – and parking spaces full – that they run shuttle transportation from the downtown.  Daily admittance is $5 dollars for adults; $3 dollars, children; kids 3 and under, no charge.
