$5.7M in state monies approved for Oconee road work

Oconee County’s state “C” Fund Committee has approved monies to pave three roads and repair sections of 10 other roads.  In all, 101.7/WGOG NEWS learned recently, more than $5.7 million of state “C” Fund money was allocated in November by the committee to re-surface Knox Road, Bayshore Drive, and Poplar Springs Road, as well as apply full-depth patching for 10 other county roads, including secondary-1, the Old Clemson Highway.  The fund used to be called Farm-to-Market allocations – a reference to the days when South Carolina was mainly an agriculture state, and its farmers needed roads to go to markets.  Oconee “C” Fund committee member Richard Cottingham has for long wanted to see improvements to the Old Clemson Highway which connects many motorists headed to Clemson University and is a by-way for many Oconeeans who live in Lake Keowee developments along SC 130.  Besides the Old Clemson Highway, the following nine other roads are funded for full-depth patching during the paving season:  Jacobs Road, Evatt Road, Orchard Road, Battlecreek Road, White Cut Road, Bethel Church Road, Rock Hill Road, Blackjack Road, and N. Horseshoe Bridge Road.
