5-0 in favor of a zoning variance

A new convenience store that will sell gasoline near Seneca received approval this week for a zoning variance for stacked signs.  A Stop-A-Minit store, now under construction, intends to locate on the Sandifer Boulevard across 123 from Murphy’s gas in front of the Wal-Mart parking lot.  The Oconee Board of Appeals approved a variance for an increase of 93 square feet from a 75 square-foot limit for stack signs.  Dave Smith of Anderson’s Signarama said under Oconee’s existing rules, three separate signs would be permitted, but that’s not what Stop-A-Minit would like.  Although the variance vote was unanimous, Board Chairman Jim Codner said his concern is that the stacked sign is going to be larger than any other sign in the immediate area.
