The closing of an Itron manufacturing plant in Minnesota is said to be a benefit to Itron’s West Union location on n. highway 11.  Word from across the country is that Washington State-based Itron announced on Monday it will close its Waseca, Minnesota plant late in 2024 and move the operations to its existing West Union complex.  A company news release says the move is part of an effort to enhance competitiveness by increasing operational efficiencies and improving supply chains. “This was a difficult decision,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Deitrich.  “Our Waseca employees have played an integral role in bringing Itron’s products and solutions to the market.”  According to the announcement, Itron will offer career placement services to employees impacted by the closure, as well as extended insurance coverage and severance packages.  Itron West Union’s history includes smart meters and collection devices.  The West Union plant has been recognized for its smart metering accomplishments.
