10-year sentence for the crime of attempted murder

A 20-year old man learned his fate yesterday in the Oconee court of General Sessions.  Joseph Jason Bertich was told by the judge that he is sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder.  Bertich entered a guilty plea.  After hearing that Bertich broke two separate knives while stabbing a person with whom he had no real relationship, Judge McIntosh passed sentence with the recommendation that Bertich receive psychiatric treatment. At the time, the victim was washing clothes.  Bertich will get sentence credit time of more than 400 days in jail, awaiting trial.
