$1 million sewer project near Walhalla

An outside grant is the funding mechanism for a $1 million project to replace the leaky Flat Rock sewer pump station near Walhalla.  The county sewer commissioners yesterday approved a $1.2 million contract to a one-year old company, Cove Utilities.  The principals of Cove Utilities left a larger company to form their own business.  Besides leaks, the existing pump station has been plagued by aging equipment.  The commissioners accepted Cove Utilities’ low bid.  A second bidder, a Seneca-based company, was $36 thousand higher, and that prompted Scott Moulder of Seneca to call for a new policy that favors local contractors when bidding is close.
