$1.5M expenditure recommended for empty industry park

Businesses that are solicited to consider Oconee’s southernmost industrial park acreage  are liable to think the topography there is challenging.  County administration wants to do something to remedy the situation at the Golden Corner Commerce Park on highway 59.  On Tuesday night next week, county council will be asked to allot $1.5M for clearing and grading.  The recommendation is scheduled to be up for council consideration, following Tuesday night’s executive session in which two economic development matters are to be discussed privately.  They are code-named projects titled “Project Wash” and “Project Badge”.  Council is being told the following about GCCP:  “While infrastructure is located at the site, no work has been done to prepare the property for development and is a major consideration when businesses are evaluating locations in multiple states.  No portion of GCCP has been cleared or graded, and its topography appears challenging to many prospective businesses.  The Oconee Economic Alliance (OEA) believes that creating a cleared and graded 60-90 acre area, with 40-60 acres that are pad ready and running parallel to Highway 59, will significantly increase the marketability of the property.”
