Zoning showdown fizzles out, minus one required player

What had the makings for a powder keg type meeting evaporated last night at the Walhalla City Hall, but when the planning commission fell short of a meeting quorum. The planning commission needed the presence of one absent member to hear and vote on a request to re-zone property to allow for a home development on Tyre B. Mauldin Street. But a planning commissioner who wanted to attend was said to have been derailed by car trouble away from Walhalla. What appeared to be an organized group of opponents to plans by Season’s Building Company created standing-room conditions last night in the small meeting room. Code and zoning administrator Daniel Fletcher, while explaining that a vote couldn’t take place without at least three commissioners suggested all parties use last night for an unofficial discussion of the rezoning application, but the opponents said they’d prefer to wait. Fletcher said he will check the schedules of the commissioners and endeavor to re-schedule the hearing in the next two to three weeks.
