YMCA contractor could start in three weeks

The first pieces of heavy machinery are in place on 14 acres, a sign that the start of construction on the Foothills Area YMCA is imminent. That’s the expectation and the hope of the Six Mile woman who is the top mover and shaker in the long-time project to build a new YMCA in Oconee County. Christle Ross made a presentation today to the business meeting forum, sponsored by the Oconee Economic Alliance. Ross has learned, however, that rainy weather and partial government shutdowns play havoc with the timetable. She told this morning’s meeting, “I would love to see them (Hogan Construction Company) truly starting in the next three weeks because we’ve secured all the permits….” There’s a pre-construction meeting required next week by the Y’s lending agency the USDA, but the country could be in a second partial government shutdown next week.
