Write-in hopeful gains West Union seat

On a night when the Braves became the champs of the baseball world, a mix of new and old politicians in Oconee County’s five municipalities celebrated victories at the polls.  And, in the case of West Union, a write-in candidate apparently has won a town council office by a write-in.  For two seats on the West Union Town Council, voters gave the only two ballot candidates, Kathy Frederick 12 votes and Carla Hancock 10 votes.  Last night, however, the chairman of the county board of elections, Jim Murray, said there appeared to be a successful write-in council winner—Boyd Nicholson, with 16 votes.  As with all votes cast in all five Oconee municipal contests, the results remain unofficial until the board of canvassers certifies them tomorrow morning.
