Wrath to be felt today from tropical storm system

WGOG land is under notice today to take caution against showers and potentially a thunderstorm from tropical system Fred that has begun to make its way through southern states.  Some of the storms forecast today could produce heavy rain.  Potentially, we are looking at between two and three additional inches of rain.  Richie Caudill, Seneca fire chief, alerted 101.7/WGOG NEWS yesterday of the impact that isolated flooding created on roads and highways especially in the vicinity of the Bountyland intersection.  Road blocks were in place on the on 188/Keowee School Road at S. Cove Road, and Caudill warns roadblocks of that kind could well be needed today.  He urges motorists to be be extra careful and to avoid driving across large pools of water that can accumulate quickly.  Highway conditions were wet yesterday morning in northern Oconee when, according to Will Bates of the Mountain Rest Fire Department, an SUV carrying five people went down an embankment off highway 107 when it was unable to negotiate a curve on the two-lane highway.  All five required a rescue, but were not injured, according to Bates.
