Worsening COVID numbers in Oconee and the state

The latest numbers reported today by South Carolina DHEC are raising alarms.  Unfortunately, says the state health director, it appears the start of the New Year will usher in record numbers of deaths and hospitalizations.  “This is no time to mince words,” says Dr. Traxler. “This is flat-out alarming for our state.” The latest numbers reflect the count taken on Tuesday approximate six thousand cases for the 24-hour period, when taken into account are both confirmed and probable cases.  Confirmed cases were 3,354; probable cases, 2,557.  Total number of new deaths:  nine South Carolinians, including two Oconeeans.  Of 22,116 test results received, the positivity percent jump to 20.5%.
