World War II victory gardens may apropos today

A Clemson Extension agent, Kerrie Roach, will help interested Oconeeans next week start vegetable gardens.  Oconee Public Library has arranged a Zoom meeting on Tuesday to learn how to be more self-sufficient by starting a garden.  A garden can save you money that you would spend at supermarkets and allow you to be more self-sufficient.  According to the library, it is not a stretch to think of gardens this time in ways similar to way they were thought of during the Second World War, when Americans had incentive to grow their own fruits and vegetables in small flower boxes, apartment rooftops, backyards or deserted lots.  Tuesday’s program will include a Q-and-A.  To register for the meeting, http://tinyurl.com/Veggard21 or contact Dan Polk, Salem Library branch manager, at 944-0912.
