Winter temps hammer Clemson museum

Clemson University has temporarily closed its Bob Campbell Geology Museum  on the grounds of the South Carolina Botanical Garden after temperatures in the low teens started a flood.  It’s the only museum of its kind in the state and operates free to the public.  According to the university, the flooding occurred when the low temperatures caused an air compressor to malfunction and a pipe to burst behind the ceiling above several exhibits.  Patrick McMillan, garden director, said the burst pipe created six inches of standing water.  Crushed were the Dimetron, the flying reptile exhibit and several fossils. Damaged was a custom designed oak display cabinet.
