Wildfire grows to 125 acres

Sumter National Forest fire crews responded to a wildfire yesterday near Callas Mountain on Hwy 28 approx., 2.5 miles NW of Mountain Rest and 3.5 miles from the GA state line at the Russell Bridge. The fire has grown to approximately 125 acres and is on the Sumter National Forest. The Callus Mountain Fire was reported yesterday afternoon, and the cause is unknown, with one structure threatened. U.S Forest Service, local fire districts, and the SC Forestry Commission responded to the area, and crews monitored the fire throughout
the night. We ask the public to avoid the area if possible and reduce speed due to emergency personnel and vehicles in the area.
