WIC benefits made easier

Participants in South Carolina’s WIC – the Women, Infant and Children Nutrition Program – should soon find easier their ability to buy more healthy produce with the temporary increase in the (CVB) cash value benefit for fruit and vegetable purchases.  Starting June 1, all CVBs for eligible women and children will increase from $9-11 a month to $35 a month until September 30.  The increase follows President Biden’s signing of the American Rescue Plan.  The new law allows the USDA to temporarily raise the amount of CVBs available for buying fruits and vegetables.  In South Carolina, WIC families can shop for nutritious foods at more than 600 authorized WIC retailers.  The program serves eligible women, infants and children up to age 5.
