Where most Walhalla car accidents occur

Tuesday morning’s multiple car accident at a tricky Walhalla intersection is a reminder to motorists to be careful where traffic blends in from a couple of major streets and highways. Chief of Police Sean Brinson concedes, “We do have a quite a bit of accidents at that intersection due to multiple factors.” The intersection is where SC 28/the Blue Ridge Boulevard meets Earle and S. Broad streets. Until Streetscape funneled traffic from four lanes to two, Main Street downtown ranked right up there with the numbers of Walhalla accidents. Brinson says, “We have seen a reduction in major speed-related accidents and speed citations issued on Main Street after the Streetscape was completed. Most of the collisions that occur now on Main Street are fender benders.” The police chief added this: “I believe Streetscape has made traffic flow slower which is safer for pedestrians….”
