What’s next for a former textile plant property?

An investment group is in hopes to see a new use for a former manufacturing plant near Seneca. Studio Investment Group, LLC held onto the former J-P Stevens plant in Utica by submitting the only bid at a public auction. The un-contested bid of $1.8 million submitted by Studio Investment’s attorney Robert Byrd of Charleston was received by the Oconee Clerk of Court’s Office in the county’s March auction of properties at the county courthouse. The property in recent years had gone into foreclosure. A Studio Investment Group representative told 101.7/WGOG NEWS: “We’re just interested in selling the property, understanding that there are some significant tax advantages to property like this. Hopefully, it can be part of the revitalization of that area.” That’s a reference to the E. Main Street property as part of an area for which federal tax credits are available.  The property takes in 1.2 million square feet and covers 27 acres.
