What the public said about a second roundabout

Julian Davis remains opposed to the idea of building Oconee County’s second roundabout in his home community of Oakway.  The county councilman says he’s not the only one registering opposition to turning SC 24 at 182 and Oak Creek Road into a circular intersection or junction in which traffic flows in one direction around a central island.  In that scenario, traffic already inside the junction gets priority.  Oconee’s only existing roundabout is located on the Wells Highway where Mormon Church and Strawberry Farm roads meet.  Davis told 101.7/WGOG NEWS, “Many local residents reached out to me and none were in favor.  Especially those that are close to the roundabout and would travel it every day.  None of the property owners were in favor of it either.  I still oppose it and feel the money needs to be spent on other more pressing Oconee County state road issues.”  DOT set March 17 as the cutoff date for comment on the project.  According to DOT, the project was selected by local leadership as an area of concern and ranked against similar projects across the region.  It ranked six in the transportation improvement plan of the region’s government service agency A-COG at Greenville.
