Westminster will complete recreation deal

On at least one major Westminster issue, there’s less discord this morning following a vote last night to complete the purchase of a $160 thousand dollar property to be developed into a future recreation complex.  And, for that, Mayor Brian Ramey says he’s gratified by the city council vote to finish the 62-acre purchase on Hall Street.  Two months ago, the deal appeared in jeopardy when a couple of council members questioned whether recreation deserved a higher priority over pressing utility infrastructure problems.  A public comment session preceded last night’s closed-door meeting, after which the council restored the Hall Street property purchase.  The mayor and council heard strong pro-recreation comment from four people including Chester Lee, father of pro football player Andy Lee.  Another speaker relinquished her front row seat to Herb Poole, the city’s tireless recreation director who the speaker said deserves better facilities to provide the city’s recreation activities to both children and adults.
