Westminster to help pay Dexter’s medical bills

So far, a public fund to help pay the medical bills of the deceased K-9 that was used by the Westminster Police has raised two thousand dollars, about one-half of what the final bills are liable to total.  The dog, named Dexter, was owned by city police officer Isaac Moore and not covered by any insurance through city government.  After hearing the clerk-treasurer say the final bill could range between three and four thousand dollars, the city council voted to contribute up to two thousand dollars and take the money from an account of taxpayer funds set aside to build a skateboard park.  Two councilmen voted no, including Doug Williams who said he was opposed to using taxpayers’ money.  Susan Ramey, who voted yes, said she wanted it made clear that the money is not coming from a separate skateboard park fund to which Westminster residents contributed privately.  The K-9 underwent surgery after being hit by a car when the dog, scared by the sound of July 4 fireworks, broke from its pen at officer Moore’s home and ran into the road.
