Westminster takes careful precautions

If nothing more than causing inconvenience, the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19 affects everyone in Westminster and the surrounding community. Jennifer Adams, clerk-treasurer, says, the City listens to the statewide briefings held daily and especially recommends this website be visited regularly: https://www.scdhec.gov/infectiousdiseases/viruses/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19. Two new terms we have all learned in the past week are “community spread” and “social distancing”. Social distancing is one method whereby we avoid “community spread” of COVID-19. Adams says, “Our most recent change limits office contact with walk-in traffic for the benefit of those who come in as well as City staff. The type of people who frequent City Hall are not just locals but often are out- of- towners, some from out of State that include, vendors, people seeking to buy business licenses and dropin “sales” calls. It would be in everyone’s best interest to limit contact here until the Governor’s State of Emergency Declaration is lifted. Our Recreation Department has suspended its programs until April 4th presently in keeping with guidelines of a sports association, Dixie Youth of SC, with which Westminster is affiliated. You will notice public safety and other City employees keeping the recommended “social” distance in face to face-to face business contacts. Our on-line payment system and downloadable forms for other matters can be accessed through our web-site. If you have difficulty finding what you need and in order to save yourself a trip to City Hall feel free to pick up the phone and call City Hall at 647-3200.”
