Westminster recreation project hits roadblock

Westminster’s leaders rescinded a special meeting vote to authorize a company to draw plans for a Hall Street recreation complex. This after, a leading recreation proponent conceded he had a type of buyer’s remorse the morning following a recent vote for the city to contract with the firm Seamon and Whiteside. That deal is now on hold, although Councilman Rusty Cater said his second thoughts don’t involve the Hall Street property on which the city has made $40 thousand partial payment. Cater last night explained that after realizing the city faces large costs to repair its utilities and hire new police officers and firefighters, Westminster should take a step back from the recreation project. His colleagues agreed, although Mayor Brian Ramey appealed for them to defer the matter for a March 7 retreat meeting.
