West Union looks back…and ahead

West Union turns 150 years old on Wednesday—which is an accomplishment that a small town has lasted so long. Current Mayor Linda Oliver says, personally, she’s honored to be the town’s mayor at its sesqui-centennial. The town is making plans to draw attention this year to its 150th year. Research is underway, also, to understand what it might have been like to be in West Union in those early years. Town population is believed to be around 300, but Oliver has a hunch that this year’s census could raise the number by about 30. “I know we have made several houses built by the Habitat and I know a trailer park has been built on my street,” she says.
