Webb confesses during jailhouse interview

A video of a jailhouse interview of R-L Webb recorded shortly after his apprehension was played yesterday afternoon to the jury in the Oconee General Sessions Court. In that interview, Webb admits that he shot Steven Gregory Brock at “very close” range inside Brock’s trailer on the night of August 31-September 1, 2016. However, thru much of the interview, Webb insists he could remember very little about the night in question, though he remembered going to Brock’s trailer home in a drunken rage, having suspected Brock of stealing his toolbox. Cross-examining sheriff’s officer Tim Rice, one of Webb’s interviewers, defense attorney Wilson Burr asked if it were true that investigators discovered two sets of DNA on the revolver used to kill Brock. And Burr wanted to know why the investigation did not open Webb’s cell phone to track his calls and activities leading up to the shooting and his actions afterward. In re-direct questioning by prosecutor Blair Stoudemire, Rice said it’s true that while he and others processed the crime scene Webb hid nearby in a patch of briars and kudzu. The trial resumes at 9 this morning. According to Stoudemire, the state intends to call five more witnesses, including three state police employees. At that point, the case will turn to the defense.
