War hero’s trove of photos donated to Clemson

The pictures taken by a 1941 Clemson graduate of the European theatre in the Second World War have been donated by his son to the university.  U-S Army Captain William Cline’s love for photography is now part of the Clemson Library’s Special Collections and Archives.  Cline’s son, Bill, got quite a surprise when he dug through the contents of boxes in the family’s Greenville home.  William Cline Sr. was commissioned into the Army on graduation and was sent to Fort Knox to train in tank tactics and mechanized warfare.  He was eventually assigned to the 758th Tank Battalion, a rare all-African-American unit that was part of the fabled 92nd “Buffalo” Infantry Division.
