WANDA IRENE OWENS REED

Seneca, SC — Wanda Irene Owens Reed, 75, wife of the late Ray Dover Reed, of 419 E. Springwood Drive, Seneca, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House.

 

A native of Clayton, GA, Mrs. Reed was the daughter of the late Rev. Eldon C. Owens and Clara Nix Owens. In appreciation of her 25 years of excellent service and dedication, Clemson University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering presented her with the Award for Staff Excellence. Mrs. Reed not only volunteered at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen; she was on the board that helped establish it. She was also on the board of Collins Children’s Home and was a member of Hepsibah Baptist Church. Mrs. Reed was well-known and loved throughout the Deaf community. She was heavily involved with the South Carolina School for Deaf and Blind, and was an activist and mentor for the local Deaf community, whom gave her the title of “Deaf Mama”.

 

Mrs. Reed is survived by her son: Darren Ray Reed (Wanda Renee); brothers: Charlie Dean Owens (Annette) and Leland Lamar Owens (Cheryl); sister-in-law: Mary Reed Owens; and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her two nephews; and one niece.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Hepsibah Baptist Church with burial to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 28 in Clayton, GA.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, April 26, 2024, at Davenport Funeral Home.

 

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 343 Jerry Gap Road, Clayton, GA.

 

The family is at their respective homes.
