Walhalla to form diversity panel

Moving forward, Walhalla will put in place a committee of city officials and residents to work toward greater diversity.  Mayor Edwards described the committee as an attempt to improve the city and “make sure those with voices can be heard.”  It’s the goal, the mayor stated last night, that the effort at ensuring greater diversity will be done as fairly and equitably as possible.  The mayor spoke at the end of a meeting in which a handful of audience members spoke directly to the mayor and council about where best to maintain the city’s memorial to its Civil War dead.  As Candace Richardson spoke, the last of six speakers from the audience, Black Lives Matter chants could be heard from the outside as a long line of protesters approached the Depot grounds.
