Walhalla student chatted with U-S leaders

A student at Walhalla High School, Olivia Lee, was among 74 high-achieving students who took part this summer in a web-conference, part in-person event, sponsored by South Carolina electric cooperatives.  An article about Olivia’s experience and that of the other students appears in “South Carolina Living” — the magazine of the cooperatives.  The teenagers used their laptops and smartphones to discuss issues of the day with four members of the state’s congressional delegation:  Representatives Nancy Mace and James Clyburn and U-S Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott.  They also received messages from Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and Chris Singleton, the former Major League baseball player whose mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, was one of nine killed in the 2015 shootings at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church.
