Walhalla now under “a State of Emergency”

The city of Walhalla officially adopted a State of Emergency ordinance that suspends certain meeting rules and delays the payment of new business licenses and renewals.  The city council tonight also agreed to allow merchants to delay paying their share of hospitality and accommodations taxes due for March, April and May to one lump sum payment on June 20.  The emergency ordinance, introduced by Councilman Roberts, was amended twice.  One of the changes will authorize money from the city’s Downtown Development Corporation to businesses that, because of the virus, will have trouble paying rent and utilities.  According to Mayor Edwards, a typical assistance would amount to between $250 and $300 a month.
