Walhalla nixes move to late afternoon sewer meetings

Most members of Oconee’s policy-making board for sewer operations work day time. And, in an effort to cut down on night-time meetings, the Joint Regional Sewer Authority board voted to start first Monday of the month commission meetings at 4 o’clock in the afternoon instead of 6 o’clock at night. But member city Walhalla doesn’t think that’s a good idea. The city council voted unanimously last night against allowing the JRSA to make the switch. The city fathers took a lead from Councilman David Underwood who said, “4 o’clock, people are working”—a reference to a conflict that members of the general public might have if they wanted to sit in on sewer commission meetings. The Walhalla officials plan to convey their feelings to their utilities director, Scott Parris, who chairs the JRSA commission.
