Walhalla nixes in-town sewer rate for new school

Like other out of town customers, Oconee School District will have to bear a larger sewer rate for the new Walhalla High School on South Carolina 11. In response to comments last night by Councilman Lamar Bailes, utilities superintendent Scott Parris said he does not favor approving the school district’s request to charge the lower in-city rate to the new school that is nearing the finish of construction on 11 in unincorporated Picket Post community. With Parris last night, the mayor and council also talked about an additional charge to the school district to cover the cost of pumping the sewage from the school to the West Union trunk line. Bailes, a member of the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority, urged the city to address the issues involved because it won’t be long until the sewer line, a high-pressure line, is turned on.
