Walhalla football update

We have an update on the situation involving Walhalla High School football.  The following statement was released by Steve Hanvey, associate superintendent for the Oconee School District: “WHS had an adjunct coach test positive.  He has not been around the players since the middle of last week but was at a coach’s meeting.  Mr. Garrett, in consultation with the nurse and other district staff, determined it would be safest to not practice today and tomorrow (they haven’t been practicing on Fridays or on Labor Day).  We continue to review the situation to determine when WHS will practice again. We have not had any other coaches or any players at WHS test positive or indicate they have any symptoms.

We had a Google Meeting today and we are going with an online ticket system called Hometown Ticketing.  It is the same program that Pickens County uses.  Each school is working on their plan for the number of tickets that will be available to purchase.  For football, priority will be given to parents of players, cheerleaders and band members.  We will have a press release with more info about the amount of tickets that will be available for each event, and the method for purchasing the tickets next week.

We are looking at relocating the band behind the end zone area to be able to open up more seating in the stadium.  Cheerleaders will still be on the track for games as they have in the past.  We will do our best to have a student section in each stadium.  However, social distancing will be required in the student section along with the wearing of masks so the number of tickets will be limited.”
