Walhalla expected to refund downtown development program

In two years time, 11 Walhalla businesses have benefited from a city government program that grants money for building façade work in the downtown. Brent Taylor, city administrator, recommends the mayor and council see fit to allocate $10 thousand for the budget of the Downtown Development Corporation. The following businesses received grants from a previous pool of $20 thousand: Building 223 Co-Op work space, the building that contains Little Japan and Partners in Wine, Alexander’s Office Supply, Moore’s Men’s Store, Mack and Morgan Interior Designs, Hugo Store and Mexican Grill, Walhalla Performing Arts Center, Corner Store, O’Kelley’s Heating and Air, Oconee History Museum, and the Museum of the Cherokee. City leaders hope other businesses take interest in the façade program and make grant applications.
